Design at Source were brought on board by Genting Casinos, to refurbish this listed building, set in the heart of Southampton. Previously serving as a Railway station, serving passengers from London to the moored, ocean liners in Southampton docks, the Design at Source team set about devleoping a sensitive, design scheme.
The internal plan required additional gaming, while the interior needed some much needed, injection of colour and excitement. The external areas needed re-defining, with an emphasis on creating some drama to the entrance of this Grade Listed building, drawing people from the busy Oxford Street beyond.
By carefully reflecting the vernacular of the existing building, the studio designed a metal Pergola, to help define the entrance. Resplendent with new signage and festoon lighting the structure provided that necesssary pull, from the near-by, busy, Oxford Street.
Once in the casino the existing, early 19th century, character building, is reflected in the design. The new bar servery greets the customers as they enter the casino. Using deep, dark colours, reminiscent of the period, combined with contemporary fittings, with brass accent finishes, the space now has a cosseting, charm, that ensures customers feel welcome and relaxed.
